The Bureau of Street Lighting is proud to introduce its new electronic plan checking service for private development projects. This service saves time and money during the review and approval process for private development projects. Save printing and courier costs by corresponding electronically via the Internet.

Currently the electronic plan checking service is in a pilot phase and will be limited to small projects (five units or fewer) from private engineers who have a reputation for quality work. In time, the program will be expanded as more plan checkers are trained and we accept more private engineers into the program.
 

There are many benefits to the Bureau of Street Lighting’s electronic plan checking service:

• Less cost for private engineers - fewer plotted plans; minimize unnecessary trips by private engineers to BSL offices.

• Reduced plan checking time - reduced turn-around times between corrections, revisions and re-submittals.

• Enhanced communication - electronic plans provide an easy, clear, fast, and effective medium for discussing projects with customers.

• Improved retention of information - paperless; no physical space required.
 

In order to participate in the e-Plan program, the following are required:

• Internet & email access

• Street lighting design project

• 5 street lighting units or fewer

• Capability to create Adobe Portable Document Files (.pdf)

• Capability to create AutoCAD drawing files (.dwg)
 

1. To participate in this program, register your project with us by completing the e-Plan application.

2. After you submit your e-Plan application, our staff will review your request and email you a response in 3 business days.

3. If approved, you will be sent an authorization email with access to the e-Package file containing all required forms and documents related to the electronic plan checking process.

4. Digitally prepare and combine all of the required forms and lighting calculations into one e-Package (pdf format)

5. Digitally prepare your street lighting design plan in AutoCAD (dwg format)

6. Send us your plan submittal package via email to:

7. If plan corrections are required, an email containing a plan correction file (.dwf) will be sent to you. The DWF file format, in black and white, is the industry standard for reviewing engineering plans.

8. If no plan corrections are required, your submitted plan will be approved (preliminary stage), and you may proceed your request for DWP service information, and Cultural Affairs Commission approval.

9. Once the Department of Water and Power (DWP) service information and Cultural Affairs Commission approval are obtained, you may continue the e-Plan process through the semi-final plan checking stage.

10. If no further plan corrections are required, your plan will be approved for semi-final. Proceed with DWP service confirmation.

11. Once DWP service confirmation is obtained, submit your final plan (with signatures and PE stamp) for final approval in full-size pdf format or printed mylar, thus concluding the e-Plan process.
