Bureau of Street Lighting actively recruits at local university job fairs
and conducts on-campus interviews only for the class of Street Lighting
Engineering Associate. The job description and requirements for this
classification are listed below. If you are not able to participate in
an on-campus interview at a university, the City of Los Angeles will make
the exam available to you through the open filing process at City Hall.

A Street Lighting Engineering Associate
performs entry level professional engineering work in the preparation of
plans, specifications, cost analysis, construction cost estimates and testing
related to the construction, reconstruction, operation and repair of a
variety of municipal street lighting projects; and does related work.
The requirements to submit an application for this
examination is as follows:

- College seniors within six months of graduation from a recognized four-year college or university may apply. However, you cannot be appointed until you have completed your entire course work and the 24 semester units or 36 quarter units described in Requirement No. 1. Successful candidates will be notified of degree verification procedures.
- Candidates filing under Requirement No. 2 must list their Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate number on the application in the “Special Licenses Required For This Examination” box. At the time of appointment, candidates must submit to the department which appoints them, verification of their EIT certification.
- Appointments to the class of Street Lighting Engineering Associate, Code 7527, will be made to temporary training positions in accordance with Section 5.30 of the Rules of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners, for a maximum duration of three years. In order to successfully complete the temporary training period, new appointees must obtain their Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate within three years. New appointees who do not successfully complete the training period will be terminated from the class.
