Historic streetlight display area dedication - 2/6/15

The City of Los Angeles has over 200,000 streetlights with over 400 different styles that include modern poles to beautiful ornate/historical. These poles throughout the decades have defined various communities within the City as well as retained the historic fabric of the City. The first streetlights installed were gas lamps in 1882 followed by electric streetlights in the early 1900's. In an effort to capture the essence of the historic significance of streetlights the Bureau of Street Lighting has established a street lighting museum displaying various fixtures that have lit Los Angeles throughout history.
